UP govt replies to SC on Varun's detention
Lucknow:

In reply to Varun Gandhi's petition challenging his detention, the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday filed its reply to the Supreme Court notice on Varun's arrest and imposition of the National Security Act on him.

The Supreme Court had served notice to the UP government and District Magistrate of Pilibhit on Varun Gandhi's petition challenging detention under NSA.

Replying to Varun's lawyer's plea that the procedures to be followed for arresting under NSA were not followed, the UP government has said that Varun Gandhi's arrest is justified and it is not illegal and he was detained under NSA so that public order is not disturbed.

The reply also states that after Varun's hate speech it became necessary for the UP government to arrest him and all documents pertaining to Varun's arrest have been given to him.

The UP government has also said that instead of approaching Supreme Court, Varun should have approached the advisory committee challenging his arrest.

The lawyer claimed that the documents connected to Varun's arrest were not handed over to him by state government.
