Terrorist phoned Zardari posing as Pranab

New Delhi: Reports in Pakistan suggest that the detained Pakistani militant Omar Saeed Sheikh was the man who made hoax calls to President Asif Ali Zardari after 26/11.

The caller had claimed to be the then External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

According to the Dawn newspaper, Omar, who made the calls from inside a jail, wanted to heighten India-Pakistan tensions.

Omar was secretly using a mobile phone in jail and he used a UK-registered mobile SIM to try and get in touch with Zardari, claiming to be Pranab Mukherjee.

He also managed to make a call to the army chief. An attempt was made to get through to the US Secretary of State, but security checks prevented that.
