Stop attacks on Indian students: Waugh
New Delhi:

Strongly condemning the unabated racial attacks on Indian students Down Under, a "shocked and saddened" former Australia captain Steve Waugh on Friday urged the perpetrators of the crime to soon stop the "unfortunate chain of events" in his country.

"I am shocked and saddened by the reports about the experiences some Indian students have recently had in Australia," Waugh said.

"I have worked with young people in both India and Australia over many years and only heard positive reports of their experiences in either country," he said in a statement on behalf of his charity organisation, Steve Waugh Foundation.

The former World Cup winning skipper stressed on the need to ensure greater safety and security of students on foreign soil.

"Our countries have always enjoyed strong and excellent relations, especially through cricket, sport and business.

"(But) The safety and security of any young person in a foreign country is a serious concern and paramount, and something we should all work towards. I appeal to all the concerned to bring to an end this unfortunate chain of events," he said.
