Barabanki:
There is a new twist in the land controversy in Barabanki, involving Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan.
In a letter to the district administration, Bachchan's representative has said that they have decided to gift the land again to the gram sabha.
The superstar has been accused of violating an agreement to build a girls' college in Barabanki. The college was announced by the superstar in January, 2008, to be named after his daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.
The degree college was supposed to come up on six bighas of land, but the village chief of Daulatpur village had filed a complaint against Bachchan, alleging that he was gifting the land to Jaya Prada's NGO instead of the gram sabha as promised in a written commitment.
The receipt of this letter has been confirmed by the District Magistrate.
A five-member committee, constituted by the DM of Barabanki, has submitted its report and found no truth in the allegations made by the complainant. Essentially, that means the district administration has given a clean chit to Big B.
The report has been given to the SP for further action.
