Manesar:
A five-year-old boy died after he fell into an open sewer in Manesar near Gurgaon on Thursday night.
The victim, identified as Sumit, was rescued within an hour of falling into the drain and was rushed to a nearby hospital. He however died soon after reaching there.
The incident reportedly took place around 9 pm after a spell of rain in the township.
"Rain had made the ground slippery and a lot of water had accumulated in the sewerage line. Local officials swung into action on being informed about the incident. The child was brought out and taken to the ESI Hospital in Manesar but could not be saved," Sub Divisional Magistrate Satender Duhan said.
Sumit's father Manoj Kumar is a migrant labourer.
Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner PC Meena has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
In a similar incident in Manesar two weeks ago, four-year-old Mahi died after falling into a borewell. She was stuck there for over three days.
