New Delhi: The line-up at the Grammys was abruptly cut short by one after singer Rihanna cancelled both her appearance and scheduled performance. Rihanna was meant to have performed her song Kiss It Better.

On Twitter, she apologized to fans, known as 'Navy,' for her absence.

Rihanna's no-show has been blamed on vocal trouble. "Based on Rihanna's examination after Grammy rehearsal today, Rihanna's doctor put her on vocal rest for 48 hours because she was at risk of haemorrhaging her vocal cords. The antibiotics she has been on for three days did not kill the infection adequately. Therefore she could not perform safely," read a statement released by the singer's representative, reports news agency AFP.

The singer is believed to have been suffering from bronchitis.

This is the second time in five years that Rihanna has had to truncate her Grammy performance. In 2009, she pulled out after the now infamous assault by then-boyfriend Chris Brown. (Also Read: Grammys 2016: Complete List of Winners)
