Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor's latest release has set the box office figures in a dance mode as they minted a little above Rs 14 crore on the first day.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted the box office figures:
In doing so, the Remo D'Souza-directed film also recorded the highest opening day collection in 2015:
The dance drama film has also found a favorable audience in North America, where a major chunk of the film was shot:
And in the gulf countries:
The film opened to mixed reviews on June 19, however, the critics have unanimously praised Varun for his performance. In his review for NDTV, Saibal Chatterjee said: "Varun Dhawan is no mug at this game and he holds his own alongside the likes of Sushant Pujari, Dharmesh Yelande, Raghav Juyal, Punit Pathak and Lauren Gottlieb."
Of Shraddha, he said: "The only non-dancer in the principal cast is Shraddha Kapoor, but she too melds perfectly into this cheerfully breathless world where everybody is a master twirler."
ABCD 2 is the sequel to ABCD: Any Body Can Dance, which was also a hit in 2013. The film is based on the story of 'Fictitious Dance Group'.
