Highlights

  1. Salman Khan is the second highest paid Bollywood actor as per Forbes
  2. Salman reportedly takes Rs 11 crore to host Bigg Boss
  3. 'Salman doesn't come that cheap,' said channel boss
Salman Khan may not reveal his salary for hosting reality show Bigg Boss 11 (which is reportedly Rs 11 crore) but the 51-year-old actor did reveal that he earned Rs 75 for his first ever gig (no, not Biwi Ho To Aisi). Salman Khan told news agency PTI that he performed as a background dancer in a show "just for fun" and earned Rs 75. "Then it went up to Rs 750 for Campa Cola (a soft drink brand) and then it was Rs 1,500 for the longest time. Then I got paid Rs 31,000 for Maine Pyar Kiya (Salman's breakthrough film), which was then increased to Rs 75,000 later."

Recently, at the event to launch Bigg Boss 11, Salman and Colors CEO Raj Nayak were asked if Salman really charged Rs 11 crore to host the show. Raj Nayak replied, "Salman doesn't come that cheap," reported Indian Express. There must be truth in Mr Nayak's statement because Salman Khan landed on the second spot on Forbes' list of Highest Paid Bollywood Actors in 2017. The list, which released last month, calculated Salman Khan's yearly earnings at $37 million - this included his fees for Sultan but not Tubelight. In addition, Salman's fat pay cheque is also strengthened by several endorsement deals and of course, Bigg Boss.

Salman Khan has hosted six out of 10 seasons of the controversial reality show. "There is nothing else that I am interested in doing, this is one of the better shows that I have. There are other really good shows but I don't think they are of my format. I don't think I'll be able to pull that off. I know I can pull this one off," Salman told PTI.

Salman Khan also hosted a quiz show Dus Ka Dum, which failed to fetch favourable TRPs but Salman said the show "worked well" for him. "I need that vibe, that touch with different personalities, with common man. I need that (grassroots) connect. Till the time I don't have a connect, I don't think I can pull anything off," he said.

Bigg Boss 11 will air on television from October 1.
