In the Lok Sabha elections held in 2014, BJP's candidate Yashwant Singh was elected to parliament from the Nagina seat in Uttar Pradesh. He received 3,67,825 votes. His closest opponent was Yashvir Singh who contested on a ticket from Samajwadi Party and received 2,75,435 votes.
This seat was earlier under Bijanur and came into existence after the 2008 delimitation. In the first parliamentary election held for Nagina seat in 2009, Yashvir Singh won the seat for SP. He received 2,34,815 votes. His closest opponent was Ram Kishan Singh from BSP who received 1,75,127 votes.
There are five assembly segments under the Nagina Parliamentary constituency. These include Dhampur, Nahtaur, Noorpur, Najeebabad, and Nagina.
The incumbent MP Yashwant Singh has again been fielded by BJP for the 2019 General Elections in India. Challenging him are Omvati Devi, Congress candidate, and Girish Chandra, BSP candidate.
The contest in Nagina is going to be tripartite. Nagina is a reserved constituency with Dalit votes being crucial to win. Both Congress and BSP candidate have fielded candidates to eat into the Dalit share of votes.
The incumbent MP Yashwant Singh is a doctor by profession. He has been elected to the state assembly twice and was also the State Minister in the Mayawati government in 2007.
