Gautam Buddha Nagar, which includes the sprawling city of Noida next to Delhi, is considered to be an important Lok Sabha seat from Uttar Pradesh. It was constituted in 2009 and in the first general election held in this constituency, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) candidate Surendra Singh Nagar was elected to parliament.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, BJP candidate Dr Mahesh Sharma was elected to parliament from Gautam Buddha Nagar. He received 5,99,702 votes while his closest rival, Samajwadi Party (SP) candidate, Narendra Bhati, received 3,19,490 votes.
There are five assembly seats under the Gautam Buddha Nagar parliamentary constituency. These include Jewar, Dadri, Noida, Khurja, and Sikanderabad.
Gautam Buddha Nagar voted in the first phase of the 2019 general election on April 11. BJP heavyweight Mahesh Sharma faces a young Arvind Kumar Singh of the Congress who hopes to win back a seat that his party lost in the 1980s and the BSP's Satveer Nagar, a rural favourite and face of the united opposition "Grand Alliance".
The sitting MP from Gautam Buddha Nagar, Dr. Mahesh Sharma was appointed as the Minister of State for Culture and Tourism, and Civil Aviation in 2014.
