In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Kamlesh Paswan was elected in Uttar Pradesh on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket. He won the Bansgaon seat in Uttar Pradesh with 4,17,959 votes by a margin of 1,89,516 votes defeating Sadal Prasad of the BSP, who received 2,28,443 votes.
The sitting MP is the Member of Committee on Petitions. He is also the Member, Standing Committee on Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution.Including his other designation he is the Member, Standing Committee on Commerce and the Member of the Consultative Committee, Ministry of Labour and Employment. He is also the Member, Committee on the Welfare of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes
In 2009, BJP candidate Kamlesh Paswan won the elections with 2,23,011 votes defeating BSP's candidate Shree Nath Ji who received 1,70,224 votes. The overall margin between the two candidates was 52,787 votes.
There are five assembly seats under the Bansgaon constituency which is reserved for the scheduled caste category. This also includes Chauri- Chaura, Chillupar, Rudrapur and Barhaj. Bansgaon itself comes under scheduled caste category.
There are total four candidates out of which one is independent. Kamlesh Paswan from BJP and Sadal Prasad from the BSP are among the key candidates who are contesting for the Lok Sabha 2019 elections.
In 2019, voting was conducted in the seventh phase on May 19 in Bansgaon constituency of Uttar Pradesh. The Lok Sabha 2019 results will be announced on May 23.
