In the 2014 General Elections, Dharmendra Yadav from Samajwadi Party was elected from Badaun seat in Uttar Pradesh. He received 4,98,378 votes. His closest opponent was Vagish Pathak from BJP who received 3,32,031 votes.
Dharmendra Yadav was elected in 2009 General elections as well with a margin of 32,542 votes. His closest opponent in 2009 was Dharam Yadav from BSP.
Badaun seat is considered to be a stronghold of the Samajwadi party in the last two decades.
In the 1957 General Elections, Raghubir Sahai of Congress was elected from Badaun. In 1962 and 1967, Omkar Singh was elected, on a ticket from JS and BJS respectively.
In 1971, Karan Singh Yadav was elected on a Congress ticket. In 1977, Onkar Singh was elected on a ticket from BLD. In 1980, Mohammad Asrar Ahmad was elected on a Congress ticket followed by Saleem Iqbal Sherwani, also from Congress, in 1984. In 1989, Sharad Yadav was elected on a ticket from Janta Dal. In 1991, Swami Chinmayanand was elected on a BJP ticket.
In 1996, 1998, 1999, and 2004 Saleem Iqbal Sherwani was elected on Samajwadi Party ticket.
For the General Election 2019, the incumbent MP, Dharmendra Yadav has been fielded by Samajwadi Party. Saleem Iqbal Sherwani has been fielded by Congress and BJP has fielded Dr. Sanghmitra Maurya.
There are five assembly segments under the Badaun constituency. These include Badaun, Bilsi, Dataganj, Bisauli, Sheikhupur, and Sahaswan.
