In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Shyama Charan Gupta was elected from Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket. He won the Allahabad seat with 3,13,772 votes by a margin of 62,009 votes defeating Rewati Raman Singh of the Samajwadi Party, who received 2,51,763 votes.
In 2004, Rewati Raman Singh scooped the constituency from Murli Manohar Joshi of the Bharatiya Janata Party, which had held it since 1996. Janeshwar Mishra and Saroj Dubey had won the Allahabad constituency from Janata Dal tickets in 1989 and 1991 respectively.
There are five assembly seats under the Allahabad constituency: Meja, Karachhana, Allahabad South, Bara and Koraon.
In 2019, voting was conducted in the sixth phase on May 12 in Allahabad.
For the 2019 general elections, the BJP has fielded Rita Bahuguna Joshi. The Congress has fielded Yogesh Shukla, and Fazlur Rahman is contesting on a Bahujan Samaj Party ticket for the Allahabad constituency.
