A former senior relationship manager in a leading financial firm decided to use his skills to make some easy cash, even if it meant bending the law. Delhi police have arrested a high profile cheat who used to lure the young girls through SMSes and later rob them. Cops have also recovered some cash, stolen laptops and mobile phones.
The accused Jaffar Hussain (28) is a resident of Jamia Nagar area of south Delhi. He has previously worked in the credit card division of a private bank in Dubai and has also worked as a senior relationship manager in India Bulls Security limited. He is currently pursuing his MBA through distance learning.
The whole incident came into light when a girl Radhika (name changed) lodged a complaint with the police that a person contacted her through SMS and expressed his wish to form friendship with her. When she ignored his proposal, he pleaded with her to give him a chance.
"After confirming that she was a young girl, he persistently tried to approach her through SMSes and phone calls and tried to persuade her to meet him. Later, it was agreed between them that Arnav (the accused used an alias) would pick up Radhika in his car from New Delhi Railway station where she was arriving from her hometown and then drop her at her residence in south Delhi. Accordingly they reached PVR Saket where Arnav told her to choose a movie which she would want to watch with him and he himself kept waiting in the car. After that he dropped the girl at Saket Metro Station and ask her to leave her luggage at her house and he would be waiting for her at a fast food outlet so that they could have snacks and watch a movie together," a police official said.
He added: "When the girl reached her house, she found that her laptop, two mobile phones and purse containing cash was missing from her bag and a piece of rock had been kept inside the laptop bag. She immediately went back to the place where Arnav was supposed to wait for her, but he was nowhere in sight."
"Our team tried to locate the accused according to the available information and his profile. After extensive search of various social networking sites, we finally established the real identity of the accused as Jaffar Hussain. A raid was conducted and we arrested the accused and recovered the stolen items. His mobile phone contains numbers of several girls whom he had approached for friendship through SMS and internet," said Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south).
"On interrogation he disclosed that he had committed similar offences earlier too but nobody reported the matter to the police. He told the victim to choose a movie and in the meantime stole her valuables and placed a stone into her laptop bag so that she could not judge the weight difference," she added.
