Congress Slams AAP for Delhi's Power, Water Woes

The AAP government was not prepared with an action plan for the summer, Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken has said.

New Delhi: The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) today blamed the Arvind Kejriwal-led government for the water and power woes faced by residents of the national capital.

"The Kejriwal government is fully responsible for the frequent power cuts and severe water shortage in Delhi as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government had not worked out any summer action plan to address these perennial problems," DPCC president Ajay Maken alleged at a demonstration in Chhattarpur in south Delhi.

"Power companies are pulling out all the tricks and applying various strategies to increase the power tariff in Delhi, but the Kejriwal government is keeping a deathly silence on the matter instead of stonewalling the efforts of the power companies to hike power tariff," Mr Maken said, as per a DPCC statement.

Congress leaders, including Sajjan Kumar, alleged that instead of taking prompt steps to ensure 24-hour power supply in the capital, the AAP government has let the people down.

Mr Maken said Mr Kejriwal had come to power on the basis of promises he made to the people of giving power at concessional rates, and water free of cost.

"But with the onset of summer, the power and water supply have gone haywire with regular power cuts and terrible water shortage harassing the people, even though the AAP Government has completed 100 days in power in Delhi," the statement said.

Sajjan Kumar, who also addressed the demonstrators, said, "people living in un-authorised colonies are being subjected to power cuts for hours together and they are not getting water for days together."

He also said that the impending hike in power tariff from tomorrow will "inflict a heavy burden on the people of Delhi".
