South African Arran wins Delhi Cyclothon
New Delhi: South African cyclist Brown Arran clinched the Tour De Cyclothon, the 100-km Elite international race title while Manipuri Moniton Singh was the best-placed Indian with the 21st position.

Cyclothon 2010, a UCI-approved international race event featuring the world's best cyclists, also doubled as the Test event for the Commonwealth Games to be held here from October 3-14.

The event, which saw 5000 participants, followed the same route earmarked for all cycling races in the Commonwealth Games. There was also a 65-km race for Indian cyclists from 22 states.

The second largest cycling event in India after the Mumbai Cyclothon 2010 with races in six categories saw participation of teams from Belgium, the Netherlands and South Africa in the elite race category.

Brown emerged the fastest with a timing of 02:05:15secs while another South African Lang Malcolm (02:05:15secs) and Dutch (02:05:16secs) Maint Berkenbosch finished second and third respectively.

Moniton clocked 02:08:02secs while other Indians Satbir Singh, Sandeep Kumar and Paramjit Singh finished 22nd, 23rd and 25th respectively.

The 10-lap race began from Parliament Street and culminated at the same place. It covered the inner circle of Connaught Place, Barakhamba Road, Jantar Mantar, and Vijay Chowk.

The National Ride (50kms) was won by Sachin Pawar from Delhi with the prize money of Rs 1.51 lakh followed by N Lokesh from Bangalore with prize money of Rs 75,000 and Jagdish Kohar from Madhya Pradesh with the prize money of Rs 51,000.

The mass mobilisation cycling event spread across various categories began with the Junior Ride (Youngsters between the ages of 8 and 13): 5kms, FICCI Corporate Ride/Amateur Ride: 25kms and concluded with the most popular LG Green Ride  15kms which was flagged off by Bollywood actress Chitrangada Singh.

Bollywood actor Salman Khan was supposed to come for the event, but the superstar did not show up, citing some prior commitments.

Salman was scheduled to participate in the event in the capital along with his brothers Arbaaz, Sohail, sister Alvira and sister-in-law Malaika Arora Khan to spread awareness about how to stay fit and healthy and also to promote his upcoming film 'Dabangg'.
