Maruti Suzuki India Limited has introduced an optional swivel seat for its popular WagonR hatchback, aimed at improving vehicle accessibility for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. The feature, developed in collaboration with Bengaluru-based startup TRUEAssist Technology Private Limited, will be offered as a retrofittable accessory through select Maruti Suzuki Arena dealerships.
As part of a pilot project, the swivel seat will be available across more than 200 Arena dealerships in 11 cities. The company plans to expand the availability based on customer feedback and demand. The initiative was facilitated under Maruti Suzuki's startup incubation program with NSRCEL-IIM Bangalore.

Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said "Swivel seat will make daily travel more convenient for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. WagonR is among the top 10 selling models* in India and is ideal to offer this accessibility feature to a wider audience."

It fully aligns with our motto to deliver 'Joy of Mobility' to as many people as possible," he added.

The swivel seat can be fitted in new WagonR models or retrofitted in vehicles manufactured after 2019. Installation requires about an hour and does not involve any modification to the vehicle structure or replacement of the original seat. The accessory has been safety-tested at the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and meets all applicable safety standards.

TRUEAssist Technology will provide a three-year warranty against manufacturing defects for the swivel seat kit. Customers can place retrofitment orders through participating Maruti Suzuki Arena dealerships. According to Maruti Suzuki, the initiative aligns with the Suzuki Group's customer-first philosophy and supports the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 10, which promotes the reduction of inequalities.
