Why Sachin does not take a shower anymore
Tejas Mehta, Tuesday January 12, 2010, Mumbai

Mumbai's famous resident, Sachin Tendulkar, has stopped taking a shower.

In a bid to contribute to the city's urgent need to save water, he bathes using a bucket of water and so do his wife and children.

Tendulkar revealed this to a team that went to shoot a "Save Water" advertisement for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. The impressed team included it in the advertisement.

Mumbai's civic body has had to cut up to 15 per cent water supply to tide over the water shortage caused by delayed and poor monsoon. So the civic administration has undertaken this campaign to make people aware of the need to use water judiciously.

It decided to rope in some celebrities and when approached, master blaster Sachin Tendulkar readily agreed.

Dressed in cricket gear, Tendulkar shot for the Save Water ad at the MCA grounds in the Bandra-Kurla Complex on Sunday.

The 30-second advertisement, directed by Meghnath Kulkarni, shows Tendulkar returning from a cricket game to relax for a while. As he is served water, he waves and tells the person filling the glass to stop when it is half filled. He then looks into the camera and tells people to avoid wastage of water and to contribute their bit to the efforts to overcome the water shortage.

"Thirst for runs never ends but if thirst for water has to be quenched then it should be used with great care," says the advertisement.

Hats off to Sachin leading by example. But what Rahul says is correct. You can save more water by taking a shower rather than a bucket.
