US Theme Park Ride Halts At 200 Feet Because Of A Phone, Riders Left Hanging Mid-Air

A high-altitude swing ride at a popular American theme park came to a sudden stop, leaving people suspended nearly 200 feet in the air. The incident, which took place at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio on April 26, has since drawn attention online after footage captured the unsettling moments from a rider's perspective. All guests were safely brought down; however, the thrill ride quickly turned into an anxious experience for many.

The incident involved the Supergirl Sky Flight, a towering swing ride that lifts passengers high above the park before spinning them at speed. According to footage shared by Storyful on April 29, riders could be seen hanging mid-air as the ride came to an abrupt halt. The video pans across the open-air structure, revealing the dramatic drop below while passengers remain in their seats, looking around uncertainly as they waited for updates.

One of the riders, Maria Salazar, described the moment as unsettling. Speaking to Storyful, she said it was "scary to have to wait up in the air, unable to move," adding that she was on the ride with her husband and friends when it stopped. She recalled that the group remained suspended for roughly 10 to 15 minutes before maintenance personnel intervened to bring the ride back down safely.

Reason Behind The Sudden Halt

Park officials clarified that a mechanical malfunction did not cause the halt. In a statement to People magazine, a spokesperson for Six Flags Fiesta Texas explained that the ride operator had intentionally stopped the attraction after noticing a guest using a mobile phone during the ride - a direct violation of park safety policies.

"Last weekend, a ride operator stopped one of our rides when a guest violated our safety policy. Once the issue was resolved, the ride resumed. All guests safely exited, and the ride remained open for the remainder of the day," the spokesperson said.

The park further stated that the stoppage lasted about seven minutes, during which all riders remained safely secured in their seats.

The Supergirl Sky Flight is designed to simulate the sensation of flight. According to the official park website, the ride lifts passengers to a height of around 200 feet - roughly equivalent to 40 storeys - before spinning them at speeds of up to 35 miles per hour.

With its open seating arrangement, the ride offers panoramic views of the park below, enhancing the thrill of the experience. The attraction combines height, speed, and exposure to create a high-adrenaline ride.
