Global air travel continued to recover steadily in 2025, with major aviation hubs handling high passenger volumes across domestic and international routes. According to Airports Council International (ACI) World, global passenger traffic reached an estimated 9.8 billion during the year, up 3.6 per cent from 2024. As per the latest rankings, one airport from the United States has topped the list with the maximum passenger influx in 2025.

World's Busiest Airports By Total Passenger Traffic In 2025

Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport retained its position as the world's busiest airport by total passenger traffic in 2025, continuing a long-running streak at the top of global aviation rankings. The Atlanta hub processed 106.3 million passengers during the year, remaining ahead of Dubai and Tokyo.

The airport has held the top spot for 27 of the past 28 years, with its dominance interrupted only in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite retaining first place, Atlanta's passenger numbers were 1.6 per cent lower than in 2024, while other leading hubs narrowed the gap.

The top 10 busiest airports accounted for around 9 per cent of global passenger traffic in 2025. Four airports in the list were located in the United States, while Asia-Pacific hubs recorded noticeable gains as international traffic recovered.

International air travel recorded stronger growth than domestic traffic during 2025, with cross-border passenger numbers exceeding pre-pandemic levels. ACI estimates that international passenger traffic reached 4.0 billion globally, with the top 10 airports handling 17 per cent of all international travellers.

Dubai International Airport retained its position as the world's busiest airport for international passengers, followed by London Heathrow and Seoul's Incheon International Airport.

Dubai remained second globally overall but continued to lead international rankings, while Tokyo Haneda recorded one of the strongest growth rates among the top airports in 2025. In contrast, Chicago O'Hare emerged as the busiest airport worldwide for aircraft movements, reflecting its high volume of take-offs and landings.
