Guwahati's Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport has earned global acclaim by winning the International Architectural Award 2025 in the Transport category. This recognition places it among seven worldwide airports honoured for architectural excellence and thoughtful urban planning. The prestigious award is presented annually by The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, in collaboration with The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, and Metropolitan Arts Press, Ltd.

Guwahati Airport: A Modern Gateway To Northeast India

Situated in Assam, Guwahati International Airport is a key aviation hub connecting the Northeast to the rest of India and beyond. Operated by Adani Airport Holdings Limited, the airport has been undergoing a significant transformation under its redevelopment plan. The aim is to modernise infrastructure, streamline passenger services, and accommodate rising travel demand.

Sharing the core values behind this architectural marvel, the caption added, "Reflecting the natural beauty, biodiversity, and cultural depth of Assam, this iconic terminal blends sustainability with soul, welcoming the world to the heart of the region."

The design philosophy of Guwahati Airport goes beyond aesthetics. It focuses on sustainability, energy efficiency, and a low carbon footprint, with features that include:

  • Open-plan layouts and skylights to maximise natural light
  • Indoor gardens and vertical green walls for better air quality
  • An "arrival forest" with lush greenery and ambient skylighting, offering a calm transition space from runway to terminal

Capable of handling 10 million passengers annually, the terminal has been crafted to ensure smooth operations, ease of movement, and enhanced baggage handling systems.
