A video showing a group of confused, exhausted, and visibly agitated IndiGo passengers has gone viral on social media after a Chennai-Singapore flight was delayed unusually long on Tuesday, 24 February. According to reports, more than 200 passengers were left waiting inside the aircraft for nearly four to five hours - a period that exceeded the actual duration of the international journey they were scheduled to take.

The flight was originally meant to depart Chennai at 7:30 am, but it eventually took off only around 1 pm, leaving passengers frustrated and demanding answers.

In a statement issued later, an IndiGo spokesperson explained that the aircraft had returned to the bay due to a "minor technical snag", reported PTI. The spokesperson added that during mandatory inspections and subsequent maintenance work, the cockpit crew exceeded their Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) - a regulatory cap governing the maximum hours crew members can operate - resulting in an unavoidable wait for a replacement crew.

"While necessary checks and maintenance were being carried out, the cockpit crew exceeded their flight duty time limitations, necessitating a change of crew and further delaying the flight. We regret the inconvenience caused to our customers and attempted to minimise it by offering refreshments and sharing timely updates," the spokesperson said.

However, the viral video shows upset passengers confronting the crew. Some complained that the cabin's air-conditioning was intermittently switched off, leaving several people feeling suffocated.

Watch the video below:

"We were unable to breathe as the air-conditioning was switched on and off now and then... " You have brought a policeman instead of sorting out the issue," PTI quoted one passenger as saying.

Another passenger expressed exasperation, asking, "How long have we been waiting? We cannot sit and wait for a long time."

Previously, in January, chaotic scenes unfolded on an IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Thailand's Krabi after the pilot refused to fly the plane after duty hours. See full story here.
