As the weather continues to remain dry, night temperatures across Kashmir dipped further below the freezing point with intense cold tightening its grip on the Valley.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 2.7 degrees Celsius compared to Thursday's minus 2.2 degrees Celsius, a MET office spokesman said.
He said the minimum night temperature in the famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir settled at a low of minus 14.0 degrees Celsius, as compared to the previous night's low of minus 14.2 degrees Celsius.
Another famous resort, Pahalgam in south Kashmir, witnessed a low of minus 8.4 degrees Celsius, same as the previous night, he said.
The spokesman said the minimum temperature in Qazigund was minus 3.6 degree Celsius. The gateway town to Kashmir had recorded a low of minus 1.9 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
He said Kupwara recorded a low of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius, while Kokernag shivered at a low of minus 2.7 degree Celsius.
The mercury plummeted by over four notches in Leh and Kargil towns in cold desert region of Ladakh, with the twin towns recording a low of minus 17.6 degrees Celsius and minus 15.0 degrees Celsius respectively.
The minimum had settled at minus 13.6 degrees Celsius and minus 10.6 degrees Celsius in Leh and Kargil on Thursday.
