Man killed for attempting to stop eve-teasers harassing his niece
Bangalore: A 60-year-old man in Bangalore has died after he was allegedly assaulted by two men who were harassing his niece.

The teenager was being reportedly harassed by the men at a shop near her home. When her uncle, Alagesan, tried to intervene a scuffle followed and he was allegedly punched by one of the two young men in the chest. He collapsed and died on his way to hospital, according to the victim's daughter.

Alagesan had undergone heart surgery a few years ago.

"I was going to a shop, they were teasing me. I told my mother... and they began fighting with her. Alagesan, my uncle... came to ask why you are fighting? They pushed him," said the girl who was allegedly being teased.

The two men who allegedly pushed Alagesan have been arrested. Krishna Bhat, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bangalore East, said, "We have taken those two persons into our custody - they have been arrested and sent to judicial custody, of course we have patrolling in the area. I have asked the inspector to place some picket points also in certain places where people gather and do this eve teasing business."

The victim was an employee of Bharat Earth-Movers Limited, a defence-run public sector unit, based in Bangalore.
