Rajshekhara, all of 24 years old, had a dream. To crack down on violence and unlawful activity as a cop. Only a few days ago, the young Hyderabad man had appeared in an exam that would qualify him as a sub inspector in the police.
The results of the exams are not yet out, but Rajshekhara will not be donning a cop's uniform. He was one of the 14 people who died in the twin blasts in Hyderabad's Dilsukhnagar last evening.
(See pictures of the blast)Many hours after the blasts, his family sat huddled a little distance away from the mortuary at the Osmania hospital. In the middle, his mother grieved the sudden, inexplicable death of her 24-year-old son, now lying in the cold, sterile hospital mortuary, when he should have been home safe.
The bodies of all the 14 people killed in the blasts last evening were taken to the Osmania hospital last night. Three of them are yet to be identified. IANS reported that among those dead are also two young men pursuing MBA degrees, Vijay Kumar and Mutyala Raju, Ijaz Ahmed who was a first year student of polytechnic and Mohd Rafeeq a 22-year-old.
At the Yashoda hospital some distance away, 22-year-old Pandu Ranga Reddy is undergoing an operation. The final year engineering student has lost a leg. His bewildered parents, just arrived from Nalgonda, are also angry at what they call the lack of safety in Hyderabad.
Ten of the 16 injured brought to Yashoda hospital are in critical condition. Accordingly the police, the injured people were admitted to seven hospitals in the city.
