Man vs Wife: War Over Baby Name Goes Online

Can dad-to-be get enough people to sign in his favour?

A New York man is having trouble convincing his pregnant wife to give their future son a name of his choosing and he wants you to help him out.

Nicholas Constantine Soukeras wants to name his first-born son 'Spyridon' after his father. His wife Kseniya Mihailovna thinks the name far too old fashioned for the 21st century and favours the name 'Michael' in honour of her own father. "I don't want to call my son something I can't even pronounce," she told the New York Post. And, alas, a conflict was born.

Nicholas has now set up an online petition for people to sign in favour of 'Spyridon' - complete with arguments and explanations for his choice - because, you know, the Internet is very powerful. Read the entire petition here.

Mommy-to-be Kseniya has agreed to settle for no less than 100,000 signatures, the approximate population of her hometown Maladzyechna in Belarus.

The petition has gone viral and so far, Nicholas has about 199 signatures in his favour. He needs 99,801 more.

Funnily enough, the baby may not even be a boy. Neither parent-to-be is sure if it is a son or daughter expected. So what happens to the petition and the 'Spyridon' proposal if the baby born is a girl? We'll know when baby Soukeras arrives.

In the meantime, can Nicholas get enough people to sign before their August due date?
