"We fell deeply in love so many years ago and have had a magical journey together. Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now. There are no secrets nor salacious events at the root of our decision - just two best-friends realising it's time to take some space and help each other live the most joyous, fulfilled lives as possible."

When the fans around the world woke up to this message from Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan's Instagram accounts a day ago, hearts broke en masse, everywhere; there was disbelief, and maybe a loss of faith in the idea of love.

And why not? Who among us didn't ship the couple as we watched glued to Step Up playing on our television sets in back in the day? As we saw them gyrate to song after song, it was our hearts that were gyrating along to the obvious chemistry on screen. And to find out they were dating later, well, it's been one of those fairy tale sorta stories that gives you hope in these times of messy relationships, the kind you look up to and emulate or hope to.

Which is why hearing the news of the couple's split has left many in tears; no we aren't exaggerating. Almost nine years of marriage and an adorable daughter (Everly, 4.5 years) later, Tatum and Dewan breaking up is like a dream shattering to smithereens, taking with it our fragile hearts.

Jenna Dewan has gone on record to say that she hates it when people say they have a"perfect life". In a conversation with Health magazine Jenna said, "When people say you guys have such a perfect life, I want to scream and tell them no one's perfect. I think there are such things as great fits. It is a great fit as long as you are growing together, and I think up until this point we've really grown together. Even if one starts to grow, the other catches up and vice versa. But I think a couple needs to be conscious and to want to do the work and be willing to look at the parts of you that need work. Both of us have been pretty aware and willing to do that. We've always had the same values. But we're not perfect! Are you kidding? We fight like other couples, we disagree about things, we have days where we don't really like each other."

Look at what went down on Twitter when the news broke.

Well, these guys aren't the only ones for sure. The Ben Affleck-Jennifer Garner break-up was pretty rough and this will string along for a while. Here's hoping Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively don't follow suit. Ever.
