Parliament Winter Session: Rajya Sabha was adjourned after arguments over the Triple Talaq bill

New Delhi: The Centre may send the Triple Talaq Bill to a Select Committee for recommendations only if the Opposition agrees to have a debate of the issue.The Lok Sabha has passed the Bill last week. The BJP accused the Congress and other parties of running away from a debate and stalling the bill that ensures gender justice to Muslim women. The Rajya Sabha was adjourned on Wednesday after Opposition demanded the draft regulation of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2017 be referred to a select committee. Rajya Sabha discussed the Maharashtra violence.

After this, discussions over the Triple Talaq bill took place, with heated exchanges between different members. The Deputy Chairman of the House, PJ Kurien then proceeded to adjourn the house till tomorrow, 11 am.

Rajya Sabha adjourned till Friday

The triple talaq bill is likely to be deferred to the next parliament session as the opposition build up pressure on sending the bill to a select committee. After a noisy scene in the Rajya Sabha today, the house has been adjourned till Friday. The truncated and delayed winter session ends tomorrow. If the bill is sent to a select committee of the Rajya Sabha, it can now only be passed in the next session of Parliament - the panel will have to be constituted and then it will scrutinise the bill and suggested changes.

Opposition wants triple talaq bill sent to select committee

A heated debate is going on in the Rajya Sabha on the triple talaq bill, with the opposition demanding that the landmark bill be sent to a select committee. The government is likely to defer the bill till the next session, sources said. The government is also expected to negotiate with the opposition parties before the budget session.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in Lok Sabha said that the central government has taken a decision to accelerate the execution of Pradhan Mantri Gramn Sadak Yojana to substantially complete the habitation connectivity as per the core network of plan by March 2019. He said, " The pace of construction under PMGSY has also been speeded up in the last three years and the average construction reached the level of 130 km per day during 2016- 17, which is highest in the last 7 years".

 Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut: What has happened in Maharashtra is unfortunate but the people who are not much aware of history are making too much noise. What the government has done is right. There is no role of hindutva in it. Peshwa had nothing to do with Hindutva .

The divide and rule policy has been played by an invisible hand here for which not just Maharashtra but the entire country is suffering. It is not just about the state government but the matter is also the responsibility of government .
