Indian Oil Manager Arrested in Jaipur for Allegedly Trying to Spread ISIS Ideology

An employee of Indian Oil Corporation has been arrested in Jaipur for allegedly trying to influence people to join ISIS.

Jaipur: A marketing manager in Indian Oil Corporation has been arrested in Jaipur for allegedly trying to influence people through the internet to become members of terror group ISIS.

Mohammad Siraj ud Din used WhatsApp and Facebook to spread the ideology of the terror group, police said. He was arrested by Rajasthan Police's Anti-Terror Squad wing under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act on Thursday and is being questioned.

"Sirazudin, hailing from Gulbarga in Karnataka,... was arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for his alleged involvement in (activities of) international terrorist organisation ISIS, supplying official inputs and recruiting organisation members in the country," ATS Additional Director General of Police Alok Tripathi said in Jaipur.

The data analysis of the accused's internet activity shows that he was deeply influenced by ISIS and was trying to draw young Muslims towards the organisation, said Mr Tripathi.  For this, Mohammad Siraj posted messages, photos and videos on WhatsApp groups and Facebook, the police officer said, adding they also found downloaded online magazines of ISIS.

Mohammad Siraj was also trying online to establish contact with ISIS members based in India and abroad, the police said.
