Hillary urges India to be firm on emission norms
New Delhi:

US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, currently in New Delhi, emphasised the need to take tough action to curb adverse climate change.

Addressing the media at the ITC Green Centre in the suburb of Delhi on Sunday, Hillary urged India to be firm on emission norms.

She also underlined the fact that US and other countries, which have been the biggest producers should shoulder the bulk of the burden.

"US won't do anything to limit India's economic growth. But we also believe that there is a way to eradicate poverty and develop sustainably," Hillary added.

We in the Obama administration recognise our responsibility, she further said.

She also stressed on the need to come down on the carbon emission. Hillary was accompanied by Minister for Environment and Forest S Jairam Ramesh.

Laying emphasis on the need to take positive steps to curb the ongoing pollution across the globe, Hillary said, "The US should fund more green projects."

Terrorism and nuclear trade between India and the US is on top of Hillary's agenda. The Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (NTBT) is also expected to come up in the discussion.

Hillary is expected to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday.
