Congress downplays British envoy's meeting with Narendra Modi
New Delhi: Congress on Monday downplayed British High Commissioner to India James Bevan's meeting with Narendra Modi and said the post of Chief Minister is a Constitutional post and the UK being a sovereign country can decide on meeting anyone.

"The United Kingdom is a sovereign country. Its High Commissioner and officials can meet anybody. Mr Modi is a Constitutional authority as any other Chief Minister," party spokesperson Sandip Dikshit told reporters in New Delhi.

Britain on Monday ended its decade-long boycott of Gujarat in the wake post-Godhra riots of 2002 with its High Commissioner to India James Bevan meeting Mr Modi and the two discussing opportunities for greater economic cooperation.
