Climate challenge: India, China bhai-bhai

New Delhi: While pressure mounts on developing nations to reassess their climate change strategies and agree to binding emission cuts, India and China are all set to put up a joint fight against the West's pressure tactics on cutting carbon emissions.

The Indo-China joint workshop called National Action Plan on Climate Change begins in New Delhi on Wednesday and a bilateral meeting between Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh and Vice Chairman of China's National Development and Reform Commission will also be held on the sidelines.

At the UN General Assembly in New York in September, the environment minister Jairam Ramesh told NDTV that India and China faced similar challenges since the two countries had similar action plans to deal with climate change.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation on Addressing Climate Change between China and India will also be signed. This agreement is likely to strengthen cooperation between China and India on technology development and greenhouse gas emission reductions.
