UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will contest next month's Assembly election from the Gorakhpur (Urban constituency), the BJP said Saturday afternoon, as it released its first list of candidates. Voting for the Gorakhpur (Urban) seat will be on March 3 - the sixth and penultimate phase.
Meanwhile, Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad said Saturday that his political outfit - the Azad Samaj Party - would not ally with the Samajwadi Party for next month's Uttar Pradesh Assembly election. Samajwadi chief Akhilesh Yadav "does not want the support of Dalits", Mr Azad told reporters.
In Punjab, former Punjab minister Joginder Singh Mann joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today, a day after snapping his 50-year-old ties with the Congress.
Mayawati's BSP also announced their first list of 53 candidates for the UP elections.

UP Assembly Elections 2022: Akhilesh Yadav Ally Accuses BJP Of Indulging In "Polarisation"
Accusing the BJP of indulging in polarisation in the run up to the Uttar Pradesh polls, RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary on Sunday said the BJP is driving a "one gear-car" that is headed backwards, and asserted that the anti-Muslim rhetoric will not work as people are fed up of such politics.
Jayant Chaudhary, whose party has tied up with the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party, also said he will not contest the upcoming polls in Uttar Pradesh and would instead focus on campaigning. (Read full story here)

'PM Proved Delhi Government Most Honest': Arvind Kejriwal's Swipe In Goa Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal - in Goa Sunday to campaign for the Aam Aadmi Party ahead of next month's election - offered novel 'proof' of his party's honesty and track record - that raids 'ordered' by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had failed to find evidence of wrong-doing. Ahead of Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, former State Cabinet Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Ramveer Upadhyay on Saturday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Agra.
The BSP MLA's son, Chirag Upadhyay told reporters, "My father has joined BJP. We will make the BJP retain power in the state. My father has applied for a ticket from the Sadabad constituency in the Hathras district but it is upon the party to decide."
Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, former IPS officer Asim Arun on Saturday joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Lucknow.
Speaking to ANI, Mr Arun said that he is impressed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has given a new path of development to the nation.
"BJP gave me a suggestion to join politics to contribute more towards social work. There is a lot that I couldn't do during my job tenure, so I decided to enter politics. I am also impressed with PM Modi who has given a new path of development," said the former IPS officer.
