Another Minor Girl In School In Maharashtra's Buldhana Alleges Rape By Peon

Fifteen people from the school in the town 500 km from Mumbai have been arrested.

Buldhana, Maharashtra: Two days after a peon of a government school for tribal students in Maharashtra's Buldhana was arrested for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl, another girl, a class 6 student, has alleged rape by the same man in the school hostel.

The minor has said that the 22-year-old had raped her around the same time as the first complainant, who was allegedly assaulted several times by the man over the past three to four months. She has also reportedly told the police that more girls were raped.

The 10-year-old's family said they only came to know of the incident around last month on Diwali when the child broke down before her aunt.

"He walked into her room, removed her bedsheet and stripped her clothes off. Then he held a knife to her throat, covered her mouth and raped her. When she reported the incident to school authorities, they threatened to kill her," her aunt said.

The police has arrested 15 people in the case so far which is also being probed by a Special Investigation Team which will be headed by a woman officer.

Among those arrested on Wednesday night is the manager, who was allegedly aware of the rape. He has been accused by the girl's father of trying to stop of from going to the police.

The case finally surfaced after the father approached BJP lawmaker and former minister Eknath Khadse, who escalated the complaint to the state's Agriculture Minister Pandurang Phundkar.
Among the arrested, the prime accused has been sent to police custody and four others have been remanded to judicial custody till November 10.

Vijaya Rahatkar, the chairperson of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women had also met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and urged him to fast-track investigations into the case.

"The school authorities have betrayed the trust of the girl's parents... they had trusted the school with their daughter's security," he had said.
