Srinagar: Amarnath Yatra, which had been suspended in Kashmir -- where 16 people died and 200 were injured in Saturday's clashes -- has received the green signal after home minister Rajnath SIngh reviewed the situation in the state, sources told NDTV. Curfew is in place in all 10 districts of the Valley.

Violence had broken out in the Valley a day after Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani was killed by security forces. "Deeply anguished at the loss of precious lives, pray for the speedy recovery of the injured," Home Minister Rajnath Singh had tweeted yesterday.

Amarnath Yatra had been suspended temporarily on Friday as part of a host of other security measures -- including the blocking of cellphone internet services and postponement of school board exams. Later, Central forces were sent out in Kashmir to help the police.

A large number of people gathered in Tral on Friday for Burhan Wani's funeral despite restrictions. The Hizbul commander was killed in an intelligence-led police operation along with two other terrorists earlier that day.

Burhan Wani, 22, had become the face of new militancy in Kashmir, representing the disturbing profile of young, educated local boys taking up arms. He featured in videos circulated on Facebook and WhatsApp aimed at recruiting young Kashmiri men for terror.
