Drugs worth Rs 1.17 crore seized in Assam

Guwahati: Sleuths of the customs department seized another huge consignment of drugs from the Guwahati railway station, custom officials said in Guwahati on Wednesday.

"We received a tip-off that a consignment of pseudoephedrine was on the Awadh Assam train from New Delhi and that it would be unloaded in Guwahati," a customs official said.

"The tablets were bound for Imphal in Manipur," the source said, adding that it was to be taken to Imphal by road via Dimapur.

The total value of the tablets seized is Rs 1.17 crore, the officials said.

On March 10, a joint team of the Border Security Force and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence seized a huge consignment of pseudoephedrine tablets on National Highway 44 near Assam's Karimganj town.

The banned drugs were worth Rs 43.92 crore and were to be smuggled to Myanmar. The contraband was being ferried in an egg-laden truck, which started from New Delhi.
