Los Angeles: In an upcoming issue of the Superman comic series, his mild-mannered alter ego Clark Kent quits his job as a reporter at The Daily Planet.

Kent, who has been with the newspaper since DC Comics debuted the character in 1940, quits in front of the entire newspaper staff after a heated discussion with Morgan Edge, the owner of the Daily Planet's parent company, reported Los Angeles Times.

There will also reportedly be a separate upheaval with Superman/Clark Kent's love interest Lois Lane developing a new relationship of her own.

Kent has been in his day job with Daily Planet ever since the comic character debuted in June 1938, over 70 years ago. His reporting gig gave him a legitimate reason to be at crime scenes.

It is not clear yet what alternate career, if any, the Man Of Steel will pursue, nor if his exit from The Daily Planet will affect a costume change for his Clark Kent persona. His typical uniform as Clark Kent consists of a business suit, red necktie, black-rimmed glasses and, occasionally, a fedora.
