Shahid director Hansal Mehta won the Best Director Award.
The Best Actor award is shared between Shahid star Rajkummar Rao and Malayalam actor Suraj Venjaramoodu for Perariyathavar. Geetanjali Thapa won Best Actress for Liar's Dice. Saurabh Shukla won Best Supporting Actor for Jolly LLB. The Best Supporting Actress award is shared between Ship Of Theseus actress Aida Elkashaf and Amruta Subhash for Marathi film Astu.
Bengali film Jaatishwar proved a big winner with awards for Best Make Up, Best Costume Design, Best Music and Best Male Playback Singer.
Jolly LLB won the Best Hindi Film. Bollywood also fared well in the technical categories with Jal winning the prize for Best Special Effects, Madras Cafe scooping Audiography and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag winning Best Choreography. Festival circuit favourite Miss Lovely received a Special Jury award.
Jahnu Barua's Ajeyo was named Best Assamese Film, Bakita Byaktigoto won Best Bengali Film, while Naa Bangaaru Talli won Best Telugu Film.
Lyricist, poet and director Gulzar has already been named this year's recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
The National Film Awards will be given out on May 3.
