The reality TV star was pictured wearing a military-style hat and appeared to be pointing her hand upwards in a Nazi salute.
But a spokesman for the American socialite insisted that she was merely dancing and scratching her face at the same time, reported Daily Mail online.
While not illegal, the pose is considered offensive and insensitive especially towards the Jewish community which suffered under the German dictator's regime.
"The hat was not a communist hat, it's a military style hat from a club. Half of her family is Jewish and many of her friends are as well," said Hilton's spokesperson.
The 29-year-old reality star has been partying in St Tropez over the past few weeks, enjoying a series of champagne-fuelled nights aboard boats in VIP clubs.
Hilton appeared to have given up her wild ways and settled down in recent years, but the past month has told a different story.
In the past week she has been pictured downing champagne, being picked up off a nightclub floor by security.
In the past month, she has also been detained by police twice, over possession of marijuana.
