Oscars: Glory For Leonardo DiCaprio, Mad Max: Fury Road

New Delhi: Mad Max: Fury Road's six Oscar wins couldn't diminish the glory of Leonardo DiCaprio, who finally won that elusive Oscar after five previous nominations. Leo, 41, scored Best Actor for his work as frontiersman Hugh Glass in The Revenant at Hollywood's biggest award show in Los Angeles. The Revenant lost Best Picture to Spotlight but created history for its director and cinematographer, Alejandro Inarritu and Emmanuel Lubezki who won their second and third Oscars in a row. Mad Max: Fury Road, a reboot of the futuristic series that made Mel Gibson famous, was awarded for brilliance in editing, production design, costume design, sound editing and mixing and hair and make-up.

There was a second iconic role reprised this year but in heartbreak for Sylvester Stallone, his Rocky Balboa was crushed by Mark Rylance of Bridge of Spies who won Best Supporting Actor. 1976's Rocky had fetched 69-year-old Sylvester Stallone his only previous Oscar nomination. First-time nominees Brie Larson and Alicia Vikander took home the Oscars for Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress for their work in Room and The Danish Girl.

Spotlight, which won Best Picture, was also awarded for its writing but lost in the acting and other categories.

The Big Short and Ex-Machina scored an Oscar each.
