London: Hollywood star Natalie Portman has dismissed rumours that she has been approached to play the lead in Hollywood remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

The first book in Stieg Larsson's famous Millennium Trilogy was turned into a film this year in writer's native Sweden and now the movie moguls in America are planning their own big budget version of the story.

Many high profile names have been linked to the project, which will be directed by David Fincher, the Daily Express reported.

Actresses like Portman, Kristen Stewart and Carey Mulligan are rumoured to be in the race to star as the female lead, Lisbeth in the crime thriller.

But The Other Boleyn Girl star has denied being approached for the role.

"I really like the books but I have not been approached at all so any of that is pure rumour," the 28-year-old star said.
