Mumbai: National Award winning filmmaker Omung Kumar said that he was amazed by the determination of actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan when she decided to go ahead with the shoot of Sarbjit despite getting hurt.

Sarbjit is a biopic on Sarbjit Singh, an Indian farmer who was convicted of terrorism and spying in Pakistan and was sentenced to death. Aishwarya plays the role of Sarbjit's sister Dalbir Kaur.

Aishwarya, while shooting for a scene, had to run frantically through some lanes filled up with mud, stones and cow dung and her footwear broke. But the actress decided to shoot the scene barefoot. Her feet were bruised by the end of the shoot.

Omung found it commendable.

"We were shooting for a crucial sequence in Punjab, where Aishwarya had to run on a barren road. The heat was high and the crowd had gathered in great numbers so we had to finish that sequence as soon as possible. At the eleventh hour, Aishwarya's footwear broke and without any time she promptly volunteered to go barefoot," Omung said in a statement.(Also Read: Aishwarya Rai Shoots For Sarbjit at a Gurudwara. "I was amazed with her dedication and it was commendable that she did not throw any tantrums despite getting hurt," added Omung.

Sarbjit stars Randeep Hooda in the titular role. Richa Chadha and Darshan Kumar also star in the film.

Sarbjit will release on May 20.
