South megastar Rajinikanth, who will be honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2019, has been receiving congratulatory messages on social media for his big win. Big stars such as Mohanlal, Kamal Haasan, Chiranjeevi Konidela and Mahesh Babu congratulated him on Twitter. Mohanlal, who was one of the jury members in the selection committee of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award along with many other celebrities, congratulated him on Twitter. Mohanlal posted a picture of Rajinikanth on Twitter and called his win "well-deserved recognition" in his tweet. He wrote, "Well-deserved recognition, Congratulations dear Rajinikanth sir for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award #DadasahebPhalkeAward."

Kamal Haasan also congratulated his "dear friend" Rajinikanth on the microblogging platform for the award. He tweeted, "The superstar and my dear friend Rajinikanth, who proved that fans can be won by screen appearances, deserves it 100 per cent." Kamal Haasan has worked with Rajinikanth in films such as Apoorva Raagangal, Moondru Mudichu, 16 Vayathinile and Thillu Millu.

Chiranjeevi Konidela called Rajinikanth "truly deserving" for the award in his tweet. Chiranjeevi wrote, "Elated at the announcement of the prestigious #DadaSahebPhalke Award to my dear friend Rajinikanth. Truly deserving. Your contributions to the film industry are immense my friend! Hearty congratulations! May the force be with you!"

Mahesh Babu wrote that Rajinikanth's contribution to cinema is "unparalleled". He wrote, "Congratulations Rajinikanth sir on being awarded the #DadasahebPhalkeAward! Your contribution to cinema is unparalleled! Truly an inspiration."

Actors such as Prithviraj Sukumaran, Venkatesh Daggubati, Radikaa Sarathkumar, Ravi Teja and Simran also posted congratulatory messages for Rajinikanth on Twitter.

Rajinikanth's son-in-law Dhanush also reacted to the news. Dhanush retweeted a note written by Rajinikanth and dropped a few heart emojis and awestruck emojis in his tweet.

Rajinikanth poured his heart out in his thank-you note written in Tamil. In his note, the megastar expressed gratitude towards the honour and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on the platform. Rajinikanth also thanked his close ones, friends from the industry, media, film technicians in his note.

On Thursday morning, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar announced the news. He tweeted, "Happy to announce Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2019 to one of the greatest actors in the history of Indian cinema...Rajinikanth ji. His contribution as actor, producer and screenwriter has been iconic."

Apart from Mohanlal, celebrities such as Asha Bhosle, Subhash Ghai, Shankar Mahadevan and Biswajeet Chatterjee were also a part of the jury.

Born Shivaji, Rajinikanth made his debut with the Tamil filmApoorva Raagangal in 1975. He was last seen in the 2020 movie Darbar. The megastar is now gearing up for Annaatthe, which will release next year.
