A still from the film Azhar
New Delhi:
'Cricket. Religion. Love' is what the makers of Azhar promise in the first trailer of the film based on the life of former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin which released on Friday.
The over 2 minute long clip, which features Emraan Hashmi in the titular role, shows the peaks and lows in the life of one of India's most successful captains, whose career was marred by the high-profile match-fixing controversy. The ICC and BCCI banned him for life, following a CBI inquiry into the case.
The first look also delves into the turbulent personal life of the cricketer who once made headlines with his link-up with former model and actress Sangeeta Bijlani, whom he later married in 1996 after divorcing his first wife Naureen. Prachi Desai plays Naureen. Nargis Fakhri plays Sangeeta Bijlani. Azharuddin and Sangeeta Bijlani separated in 2010.
Directed by Tony D'Souza and produced by Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Motion Pictures, Azhar opens on May 13.
