About Namakkal

In the 2014 General Elections, P. R. Sundaram from AIADMK was elected to Parliament from Namakkal in Tamil Nadu. His closest opponent was S. Gandhiselvan who contested on a ticket from DMK and received 2,68,898 votes.

In the 2014 elections, Namakkal parliamentary constituency had registered 79.73 per cent turnout of voters. Out of the 10,58,676 voters, 5,32,212 were male voters and 5,26,436 were female voters. In the 2014 polls, 5 women candidates had submitted their nomination from Namakkal and nomination of all 5 were rejected.

The first Lok Sabha elections were held in Namakkal in 2009. In 2009, S. Gandhiselvan was elected to Parliament on a DMK ticket. He received 3,71,476 votes. His closest opponent was Vairam Tamilarasi V. who had contested on an AIADMK ticket and received 2,69,045 votes.

Namakkal constituency was formed in 2008 after delimitation. Earlier it was a part of Rasipuram Lok Sabha constituency. The Namakkal Constituency has six Assembly segments which are Sankagiri, Rasipuram, Senthamangalam, Namakkal, Paramathi-Velur, and Tiruchengodu.

For the 2019 General Elections, P Kaliappan will contest on an AIADMK ticket, A.K.P. Chinraj will contest on a DMK ticket and V Raman in BSP's candidate.

AKP Chinraj is from KMDK which is an ally of DMK and he will be contesting Lok Sabha polls on DMK's rising sun symbol.
