New Delhi: A 28-year-old man, who was allegedly in an inebriated state, sustained injuries after falling on the metro track at Chandni Chowk station in New Delhi, disrupting metro services on Yellow Line this afternoon.

"The man, identified as Mangal, a native of West Bengal, was in an inebriated condition. Whether he jumped on the track or fell down after losing balance, could not be ascertained yet," DCP (Metro) Jitendra Mani said.

According to police, the incident took place around 12 pm and Mangal fell on the track before a train approaching Chandni Chowk station and destined to HUDA City Centre in Gurgaon. The driver pulled the brakes and Mangal was saved.

"The train, which was half inside the tunnel, came to a screeching halt and the passengers were de-boarded through the emergency exit at the front of the train. The incident caused a delay of nearly 30 minutes," a commuter said.

Mangal, who suffered injury on his head by the impact of the fall, was rushed to a hospital. He is stated to be out of danger but not in a condition to give statement, police said.
