Allegedly slapped and insulted by a teacher for not doing his homework, a tenth class student of Government Senior Secondary School here today tried to commit suicide by taking some poisonous substance.
Jugraj Singh was taken to hospital by his parents in a serious condition, the police said.
The student alleged that computer teacher Bachitar Singh had insulted him for not doing his homework and slapped him in the presence of other students.
"I left school and when I was going back home, Bachitar Singh chased me in his car and again assaulted me and threatened me with dire consequences" Jugraj alleged.
Jugraj said he locked himself up in his room and consumed poisonous substance, after which he started vomitting.
However, Bachitar Singh said Jugraj was asked to express regrets for not doing his homework but the student threatened him with dire consequences and fled from the school.
He said a complaint against Jugraj Singh was lodged with the police for allegedly threatening him.
