MG Motor appears to be inching closer to launching its new three-row SUV for the Indian market, as the design of the Wuling Starlight 560 has now been patented in the country. For context, Wuling is MG's Chinese sister brand under parent company SAIC, and the Starlight 560 is already on sale in several global markets with petrol, plug-in hybrid and electric powertrain options. The India-bound model is expected to arrive with MG badging later this year, taking on rivals such as the Mahindra XUV 7XO and Tata Harrier in the premium SUV space.

MG Starlight: Design Expected

The patent image reveals that the India-spec MG Starlight will closely mirror the international Wuling model. It carries a clean yet rugged SUV stance with a boxy silhouette, sharp LED lighting elements, a blacked-out grille section, chunky bumpers and pronounced body cladding.

From the side, the SUV gets squared wheel arches, roof rails, dual-tone ORVMs and blacked-out pillars that lend it a floating roof effect. At the rear, wraparound tail lamps, a sharply raked windshield and a chunky bumper further enhance its family-friendly but premium road presence.

Dimensionally, the SUV measures 4,745 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width and 1,770 mm in height, while the 2,810 mm wheelbase should translate into generous cabin room.

MG Starlight: Powertrain Expected

Globally, the Wuling Starlight 560 is offered with multiple powertrain choices, but India is likely to prioritise the PHEV and EV versions. The PHEV version uses a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of around 197-204 PS. It is backed by an LFP battery pack that offers a claimed 125 km pure electric range, while the total driving range stretches to nearly 1,100 km.

The pure EV version is expected to borrow its setup from the MG Windsor EV, likely using a 56.7 kWh battery pack paired with a front-mounted electric motor producing around 136 PS and 200 Nm. Its claimed range in global markets stands between 500 and 540 km.

MG Starlight: Interior And Features

Inside, the MG Starlight is expected to focus heavily on space and comfort. Highlights could include a 12.8-inch floating touchscreen infotainment system, wireless smartphone connectivity, OTA updates, dual wireless charging pads and leatherette upholstery. Higher trims are also likely to pack features such as automatic climate control, ambient lighting, panoramic sunroof and reclining rear seats, positioning it as a premium family SUV.

MG Starlight: Expected Launch And Price

MG is expected to introduce the Starlight in India later in 2026, with the PHEV likely arriving first. The fully electric version could follow as the flagship offering. Pricing is expected to start from around Rs 18-20 lakh bracket, placing it right in the heart of the XUV 7XO and Harrier territory.
