Long-term reliability is among the top priorities of new car buyers. This is one of the factors that differ from model to model. However, it is generally measured in terms of brands. Continuing with the same, Consumer Reports has released a list of top-ranking brands in terms of reliability in the US market. Among all the brands evaluated, Tesla has the lowest rank, while the top ranks have been taken by Japanese brands.
Specifically, the US-based electric vehicle manufacturer, Tesla, is ranked 26th on the list, which gives a "Reliability Verdict" of 31 points. Meanwhile, the brands like Jeep, Ram, and Chrysler were placed above it on the 25th, 24th, and 23rd ranks. These ranks were awarded after analysing models from 26 brands that were five to ten years old.

That timeframe covers the period when Tesla started increasing Model 3 production, resulting in the company manufacturing vehicles in a large tent located in the parking lot of its Fremont, California factory. This environment isn't ideal for manufacturing durable vehicles.

On the reliability scale, Lexus and Toyota occupied the position at top positions, achieving scores of 77 and 73, respectively. They were closely followed by Mazda, earning a score of 58, while Honda and Acura completed the top five with scores of 57 and 53, respectively.
However, there is some positive news for Tesla regarding reliability. Consumer Reports indicates that Tesla holds the ninth position in new-car reliability with a predicted reliability score of 50. This places it just behind Buick (51) and Acura (54) but ahead of Kia (49) and Ford (48), along with luxury competitors like Audi (44), Volvo (42), and Cadillac (41).

At the bottom of Consumer Reports' new-car reliability rankings is fellow electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian, which received a score of only 24. Ram (26), Jeep (28), and GMC (31) are ranked just above it.
