3 killed in police firing in Gujarat town

Rajkot: Three Dalit youths were killed after police firing at Thangadh town near Rajkot following clashes with members from another community, officials said.

The trouble started when the two groups clashed over some issue at a fair held near Thangadh in Surendranagar district which concluded on Saturday, they said.

The police said they first resorted to lathicharge and then fired tear gas shells. "But as violence continued and stone throwing started, we had to fire in air," a police official said. A Dalit boy died while two others who were seriously injured. They later succumbed to their injuries.
